Bon Jovi’s “Livin on a Prayer” reentered the Billboard Hot 100 at no. 25 thanks to a viral video trending on the internet.
While the song was playing during a standard jumbotron pan at a Boston Celtics game, fan Jeremy Fry decided to lip sync and dance with fellow people in attendance at the TD Garden.
The video, which initially came out in 2009, returned to prominence thanks to utrend.tv on October 17. Currently, it has 11 million views worldwide and has been shared more than 1.6 million times on Facebook. The song also debuted at No.5 on the Streaming Songs chart with 5.1 million streams.
Earlier this year, Billboard changed the formula for the Hot 100 to account for YouTube views, which explains why “Livin’ on a Prayer” has reentered on the chart. It first hit the chart in 1986 when it became the group’s second consecutive #1 song.
The last time Bon Jovi appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 was in 2009 with “We Weren’t Born to Follow.”
Recently, Richie Sambora took a “leave of absence” from the band in order to spend more time with his 16-year-old daughter, Ava.
