Liverpool’s Cavern Club (home to many early Beatles performances) closes on this day in 1966. Police had to be called, when over a 100 people barricaded themselves inside the club.

On this day in 1968, Frankie Lymon, lead singer of The Teenagers, dies of a heroin overdose at age 25. His three wives fought over his estate for years, finally ending in 1989.

Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love A Rainy Night” hits #1 on the US Hot 100. It had already achieved that spot on the Country chart.

On this day in 1987 “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi was the #1 song. It may be the most iconic song of the hair band era, still selling digital down loads by the thousands today.

Same day, same year, it was The Commodores singing on “American Bandstand.”

On this day in 1995, it was Jewel Kilcher releasing her debut album, Pieces of You. Of course, we know her as just Jewel. That album has gone on to sell over 12 million copies here in the US, making it one of the best selling debut albums ever.

Phil Collins left the band Genesis on this day in 1996. He would reunite with Genesis 10 years later. In case you didn’t know, Phil is a left handed drummer.

Garth Brooks hosts Saturday Night Live, on this day in 1998. As the musical guest, he performs his hit “Two Piña Coladas.” How ’bout the line dance version??
